Spring in my step

How I got my energy back

There are a few people out there who we trust without question when they suggest a meet up between two people. Christina is one of those people for me — when she tells me to connect with someone, I say, “when and where?” I don’t stop at go, I don’t collect $200 — I make time for coffee.

This most recent time, I was just coming out of a busy period and hadn’t networked in a while. I felt a bit rusty. While I definitely wasn’t regretting the coffee date, I just felt out of practice. But I was feeling positive about meeting Christina’s colleague!

During coffee, I discovered that I get a boost of energy by talking about all the great work my clients are doing, and all the great work I’m doing to help my clients. Sure, my new friend and I spent a few moments venting about life and work, but the conversation always went back to how much I love my clients and what I do.

Do you have that drive with what you are doing? Try out my technique. Meet up with someone and start talking about what you’re passionate about. See if you walk away with a ton of renewed energy.

My biggest takeaway is to keep on networking. Talk to new people, meet new colleagues, whether it’s for coffee, lunch or a drink after work. Keep it fresh and practice your pitch — you never know what you’re going to get from a new connection. It could be that little boost you need!
