Overwhelmed by Hiring Needs? Start Saving With a Recruiter
One of our goals at QuincyCFO is to get our clients to a healthy enough place where they can fully take control of their accounting needs. For many of our clients, that means there comes a time of reckoning where a large amount of hiring needs to take place.
As any HR team will tell you, hiring is an exhaustive (and exhausting) process that takes time, energy, and money. While a smaller business might be able to quickly get their hiring done and not have to worry about it for many months after, larger businesses may very well find that the recruitment process has become something demanding continuous attention.
For those businesses that are having a challenging time meeting the demands of hiring internally, our experience has shown us that hiring a recruiter can be the perfect solution to better hires faster.
Recruiters, of course, cost money, so it’s important to ask yourself a few questions before bringing one onto the team:
1. How difficult is it to fill the position you need? More specialized positions in the industry (Tech and Accountants for example) are in higher demand, and consequently, not always readily available for hire. These candidates who are already employed and not actively seeking a new position are referred to as “passive candidates.” These highly sought-after candidates won’t be easily swayed by simple postings on job boards – they often require the more direct outreach a recruiter provides.
2. Is this a long term or short-term solution? Do you see this as a temporary fix until you can better hammer out your hiring strategy in the future? Or is the recruiter a strategic investment that is meant to help move your business forward? Both are viable solutions for recruiting challenges, so keep in mind you might be better off with a permanent recruiter on your staff or a regular staffing agency with pre-negotiated reduced rate for a certain volume.
3. How many different kinds of people do you need to hire? There are many kinds of recruiting organizations out there and many specialize in different verticals, such as accounting, IT, or marketing. If your hiring needs only extend to certain areas of your business (such as accounting), a specialized recruiting firm will give you the best bang for your buck. If you’d like hiring off of your hands altogether however, a fully committed recruitment process organization or hire might be your best option.
Recruiters free up your time to focus on the Client and the Product that you’ve built, but they can also go beyond that, expanding your hiring system into something that reflects well on your business and delivers talent right to your door. We’ll break down how recruiters can go above and beyond for your needs in our next installment. In the meantime, drop us a line with your hiring stories (horror or otherwise) at info@quincycfo.com.
